Bangladesh’s economy is ranked 121st in the 2019 Index. Bangladesh is ranked 27th among 43 countries in the Asia–Pacific region. Economic growth of approximately 6 percent annually for two decades has resulted by a rapid increase in private consumption and fixed investment. The major factor for such a development is Bangladesh’s remarkable progress in poverty reduction.

The combined value of exports and imports is equal to 35.3 percent of GDP. 

In the last 3 years, Bangladesh has seen a tremendous growth in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector and also aims to raise its export earnings to $5 billion by 2021.

Shipbuilding is a growing industry in Bangladesh with great potential. Bangladesh also has the world's largest ship breaking industry.

Bangladesh's textile industry, which includes knitwear and ready-made garments is the nation's number one export earner with 80% of Bangladesh's total exports of $27 billion and is 2nd in world textile exports.
